Ron Davis' Obituary
Ronald H. Davis, 86, a beloved husband, father and friend sadly passed away January 5th 2021 at Cedars Sinai Medical Center from COVID-19. Ron was born in 1934, the son of David and Ruth Davis, and brother to Cliff Davis in Lynwood, California. He leaves behind a loving wife, Gigi Davis, three children: David Davis, Todd Davis and Ellegra Chavez, daughter-in-law Anna Davis, son-in-law Rio Chavez and granddaughter Savannah Davis.
Ron was a self-made man, who dropped out of USC with one class remaining to support his family and begin his career as a stockbroker, first at McDonald and Co, and then he started his own firm, Wellborne & Associates with his brother Cliff Davis and Karl Sussman, before working for Cantor Fitzgerald and Company. Ron worked in the brokerage industry for 30 years before staring American Credit Card Telephone, the first company to design pay phones that accepted credit cards, which he took public with the help of his son David in 1984.
Later in Ron’s career he joined a small company called Lexi International, growing the company from 25 employees to over 1400 telemarketers, conducting business in over 10 different languages for fortune 500 companies. Under Ron’s leadership, Lexi was named to Inc’s 500 fastest growing companies on two separate occasions, before selling the company and retiring in 1997.
In 2000 Ron decided to come out of retirement and formed a virtual office business called Global Business Centers, (GBC). Located in Beverly Hills, GBC offices included 2 floors of physical rented office space and hundreds of virtual clients who were able to use the address of the physical location and the phone & mail services for a fraction of the cost of renting an office. Ron sold GBC and retired for the second time in 2015.
Ron started from very humble beginnings, he was an honest, loyal an honorable man, worked hard to achieve success and instilled a strong work ethic in his family.
Ron was most passionate about spending time with his family and friends, bringing everyone together as much as possible. He was a father figure to everyone he met; a man who believed that everyone should be treated with kindness, respect and honor. Never shy from providing advice, leadership, love and support. He was always ready to talk, never short on his opinions but more important always there to listen as well.
Ron was the “cool dad” who drove a Maserati, married three times, with a house full of “adopted kids”, enjoyed going to the Hollywood Bowl, Lakers, Rams and USC football games, loved traveling with his family around the world, as well as lying by the pool in Hawaii. Ron was passionate about art, both as a collector and as publisher of celebrity portraits of George Hurrell, images from Micha Bar-Am and paintings from Sasha Moldovan. Ron loved following the stock market and often referred to himself a politics junkie.
In Ron’s life, he never feared challenges and never give up, at age 54, he returned to USC to take his last class so he could graduate with his son Todd. Walking through together in their caps and gowns was a moment of pride and accomplishment for both of them, made especially memorable because they were able to do it together in front of their entire family.
The Davis family has a lifetime of wonderful memories of a father, who was truly a gift to all of us. He will forever be remembered as a man who loved life, loved being a father, husband and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and so many others who looked up to him for his guidance, wisdom, support and love.
Poolside lounge chair #1 will forever be reserved in honor of Ron Davis.
